You can get Windows 7 for free for a certain period, just wondering if anyone was using this OS?

I'm not at the moment although I did install it when they first released the beta, it was alright, quite similar to vista from what I saw although I didn't really use it much at all.

Windows 7 is meant to be faster than Vista, and Vista appears to be getting slower and slower for me. What are your opinions Major Day on day to day use? It's supposedly more optimised for 64 bit systems... so might give some better performance...

I have no compatibility problems with Steam/games
PunkBuster can throw up a few problems for some people though, because EvenBalance say they will not be supporting Windows 7, until after its officially released.
I personally don't have any P/Buster problems with CoD4/CoD5/ Wolfenstein/FarCry/AA3
Being a new OS. Windows 7 still has problems with drivers and stuff, and it will take a while for software companies to update all their programs.
I might just have been lucky, in that everything has worked for me from the word go, i've not had one single compatibility problem at all, since i first installed the beta version in December last year, but im sure their are plenty of others who won't have been so lucky.

For anybody who wants to try the Windows 7 Release Candidate, you only have two days left, before the cut-off date.
Get it here:
Windows 7 Release Candidate
I suggest that if you have a spare hard drive, to install it on that first, and use that to test all your hardware/ software for compatibility issues, before making it your primary OS.
Windows 7 is not an upgrade, you will have to format everything on the hard drive to install it, so remember to backup everything you want to re-install and use later.

Windows 7 is out! I've heard one guy is having problems getting counter-strike 1.6 to run in opengl mode (which is the only good one).

Thats just it.....not only does it look good, but it performs well also..I couldnt care less about graphics..performance is what I want..I run a gaming rig on a 20meg connection, with high end GPU's,,,, simply so I can play games..thats what my PC does..I built it purely and specifically to play games...Windows 7 eats framerates for breakfast...and 'no" I dont work for m/soft.....but they just seem to have it right this time, mind you its early days yet..but I been a beta tester on it since day one and..what can I say.." it does what it should".

I know you can run programs in a compatibility mode for XP so anything that works on XP you should be able to make work on Windows 7.

I just ordered windows 7 yesterday to arrive on monday, along with 2x 300Gb 15krpm U320 SCSI drives and a high end scsi raid 0 card ;) (A quick way to spend £850!)
Should get my damn computer running again, it desperatly needs a format after 2 years so nows the time to upgrade for me.
I'll be getting rid of my 2 x solid state 128Gb drives if anyone wants to make me an offer in the process... But then my pc's built for loading lots of aps and changing between them fast and not gaming haha.
